Washington, April 2 (IANS) Ruling out once again a US role in resolving either Kashmir or water issues between India and Pakistan, a senior official has said it was for the two countries to work things out. Washington: The economy is likely to have added jobs last month for only the second time since the recession began 27 months ago. That, economists say, would mark a significant turning point in the recovery. It would mean the worst is over and that more job creation could be on the way in the months ahead. But, it does not mean enough new jobs are being created to bring down the unemployment rate. The Labor Department's March unemployment report is released at 8:30 a.m. Economists are forecasting that... (more)

It was certainly a ‘Pretty Woman’ story turning ugly, when a Manhattan real-estate developer tried to save a wayward escort by giving her over 100,000 dollars to start a new life, but got conned in return. Unlike Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in the popular 1990 film, Robert Brot, 57, met Lindsey DeLeon, 26, on a dating Web site in October 2008, Brot fell in love and wanted to marry her, instead, he got conned, as De Leon took the money but went back to her old tricks, he claims in a suit filed last we... Over three years ago, I began researching and writing about the impossible debt problems faced by several of America's largest and most trusted enterprises: General Motors, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac. The hate mail came into my office by the truckload. I can sum up the sentiment as, "Porter...you're brain dead. You're un-American. You've lost your mind." I wasn't digging up hidden, insider facts. I simply performed a basic analysis of each of these companies' ability to take in cash, viewed against its... (more)

The Ethisphere Institute, a New York City think tank, on Monday released its fourth annual list of the World's Most Ethical Companies. The listing, of companies with at least 100 employees and more than $50 million in annual revenue, gives its winners an opportunity to trumpet their do-gooding ways. It is not a ranking, so they are all equally winners. To compile the data on which it bases the list, Ethisphere relies mostly on the honor system. Three thousand companies were nominated--or nominated thems... (more)

Some of my all-time favorite movies are from James Cameron, such as the Terminator series and Aliens. And this week, Cameron's latest creation, Avatar, has become the top-grossing movie worldwide (going beyond his 1997 blockbuster, Titanic). So far, it has taken in $1.6 billion. In a way, Cameron is a New Age entrepreneur -- that is, combining creativity, unconventional wisdom, over-the-top optimism and good business sense (this is also the case with others in the entertainment industry, like George ... President Barack Obama on Monday projected the U.S. budget deficit would peak at a fresh record in 2010 before easing as he pushes for fiscal responsibility while battling double-digit unemployment. Dubbed an old-style liberal tax-and-spender by his Republican opponents, Obama is under pressure to convince investors and big creditors like China that he has a credible plan to control the country's deficit and debt over time.
